Philosophy
I encourage students to take risks in the musical careers and get a “jumpstart” on the real world! The student and I will discuss their intended performance interests and I will make a recommendation for a performance group (band, youth orchestra, extra-curricular music school performance group)
Practice
• Although practicing is often viewed as “tedious”, or “boring” by students, especially the younger ones, it is imperative that practice routines be established for the first lesson. It is expected that every day, the minimum time required for beginners is thirty minutes a day. This total can be broken up into two smaller fifteen-minute chunks to make practicing more manageable.
Listening
• In addition to technique practice, I recommend listening sessions to help inspire students by listening to the top artists perform on their instrument, also expose students to new and diverse genres of music which will push their comfort zone. I suggest the Itunes music store, Amazon.com, or consulting your local public library for albums and music that I recommend
